Handshake project in Munich

The Dutch Cycling Embassy accompanied representatives of 13 European cycling cities in Munich.

After visiting Amsterdam and Copenhagen, the Civitas Handshake project visited the German city Munich. The Handshake project aims to help cities of all types become more liveable places, improving conditions for cycling as an everyday mode of transport. It hopes to achieve this by improving the quality of both cycling infrastructure and communications through identifying innovation in areas such as intelligent transport systems, bike sharing, modelling, bike parking, socio-economic assessment and governance and decision-making. Therefore, the project went first to Amsterdam and Copenhagen, and now Munich.

Representatives of thirteen European cycling cities, like our participant Amsterdam, came there together to see how the city changed aiming to become a good cycling city. The Dutch Cycling Embassy (DCE) accompanied them. “It was a very interesting and interactive trip. The city impressed me with her measures to become a better cycling city,” says DCE-director Lucas Harms.

The handshake project is running from September 2018 to February 2022 and is co-financed by the European Union.
